ASUS N56VZ Multimedia Laptop Spesification

The N-series laptop of ASUS is geared towards those looking for a superb multimedia and entertainment experience on a mobile PC. The 15.6-inch ASUS N56VZ belongs to the latest line of notebooks having Intel’s 3rd generation Ivy Bridge processor to go with its premium multimedia features. The N56VZ-DS71 ($1,149) comes with a genuine external subwoofer that plugs into a tiny jack on the left edge for added audio punch—obviously more suited for placement on a desk or table than in your lap, but the capper of a sound design co-developed by Asus and Bang & Olufsen.

The Asus is also a deft gamer. You can think of the N56VZ-DS71 as a pared-down version of the 17.3-inch Asus G75VW-DS71 that we looked at earlier this year. It's smaller, with a 15.6-inch display (but the same 1,920x1,080 resolution); lighter, at an even 6 pounds; and boasts the same quad-core Intel Core i7 processor found in the higher-end G75VW model.

Keyboard layout seems standard for 15-inch notebook today with the number pad on the right with the arrow keys positioned between letters and numbers. A layout that I really like because it is easy to mis-click the arrow button. There is a dedicated Page Up, Page Dn, Home and End buttons on the top right you will find useful. Keyboard is perfect for you lovers of gamers according to the location of the touch of your finger. What was missing dedicated multimedia keys that I want in my multimedia laptop. Dedicated volume controls are not even present.

The Asus N56VZ-DS71 would not complete our MobileMark 2007 battery-rundown test due to a software conflict we couldn't pin down. Since we don't have a MobileMark time to share, we ran our old DVD rundown test—which is more demanding than MobileMark, since the latter incorporates pauses or idle time—and the Asus's 6-cell battery lasted for just shy of three hours. That's not a terribly impressive time, but it's respectable for a multimedia laptop packed with high-end parts. Plus, it means you can get through a movie on a single charge.

Specifications of this N56VZ asus performance was amazing with a high value rating. This notebook is also backed by a discrete graphics card NVIDIA GeForce GT650M with 2GB of RAM. The discrete graphics NVIDIA GTX660M bit similar to previous gaming notebooks we reviewed, Gigabyte P2542, but with a slower clock speed of 100MHz. However, he did well on the Diablo III running on medium settings / high. Batman: Arkham City on the other hand is only playable in low settings when running at full HD.

Perhaps the most important feature you'll get out of this notebook is sound thanks to Premium ASUS SonicMaster technology that they developed with Bang & Olufsen. The N56VZ ASUS just made for those who especially with the sound coming out of their devices. Performance of Audio SonicMaster is very smooth and soft without throwing erta sound quality and powerful bass.

Communication
The above mentioned interfaces are supplemented by DraftN WLAN and Bluetooth 4.0. But these are also found in low-cost devices, such as the Lenovo IdeaPad S206. The 1.3 MP webcam delivers a decent picture in low light, though not very good. As long as the subject doesn't move, the contours are sharp and the blurred areas are limited. The colors have a high contrast. The status LED in the upper TFT bezel indicates operation.

Accessories
The high-quality packaging includes as standard a slim case, which is optimal for the 12-millimeter notebook. Then we have the two afore-mentioned adapters (Ethernet, VGA). Those who want to use a standard HDMI will need another one. There is no disk with the Windows 8 Pro (64 Bit) or the drivers. The user is prompted to burn a recovery backup via the Recovery Manager.

Software
We see less in terms of software features. While Sony and Samsung bundle all the tools under one roof (Vaio Care), Acer seems to have a different tool for everything. This might be an exaggeration, but tools like "Power Button Function" make us doubtful. There are no full versions of commercial software. CyberLink's Media Espresso is pre-installed as a free version.

Warranty
24 months of Collect & Return (will be picked up) is the standard warranty for Acer's high-priced notebooks. The devices under 1000 Euros (~$1290) come with only 12 months of Bring-In service. This can extend up to three years for 90 Euros (~$116); for 100 Euros (~$129), Acer sells the Notebook accident and breakdown cover. Its duration is one year and covers, for example, theft and burglary (including in a car) and breaks or damages caused by liquids.

1. Intel Core i7: The Intel Core i7 for laptops is based on the LG1156 Core i5/i7 CPU for desktops. The base clock speed of the CPUs is relatively low, but because of a huge Turbo mode, the cores can dynamically overclock to up to 3.2 GHz (920XM). Therefore, the CPU can be as fast as high clocked dual-core CPUs (using single threaded applications) but still offer the advantage of 4 cores. Because of the large TDP of 45 W / 55 W, the CPU is only intended for large laptops.

2. 720QM: The Core i7-720QM is the slowes Core i7 Quad Core in 2009 and clocks between 1.6 and 2.8 GHz (due to the Turbo Mode). Therefore, it combines the advantages of a slow quad core CPU with a fast single core one.
